What causes marketing on the internet to be consumed with so many fraudulent scammers? It's anonymity. All you need is a connection to the internet and it can be done. The one thing preventing people from doing it more often is the fear of being discovered. Once online, the fact that nobody knows you, allows users to act in horrible ways.

What if an old lady dropped her purse on a busy sidewalk? A regular person on the street would return it kindly. However, if an old lady accidentally put her bank information online, it would be so easy to take it and hide. If this were to happen, the scammer would blame the old lady for putting her information online to make it not their fault. They claim that it was simply the old ladies' mistake.

Also, fraudulent artists prowl on the internet because of the relative ease. It's not very hard to think of something to trick people into believing you. In fact, it has been noted that even the most obvious email scams, a person wouldn't even be required to know English very well. It takes subtle things that look official, such as verifiable email address, to effectively trick people into giving money.

Many scams are perpetrated through a simple copy-and-paste technique. The scammer receives a legitimate email from an entity - say, eBay for example. He or she copies the email, makes a few changes to the code (tricks which can be learned through simple internet searches), and sends it out. Unknowing recipient respond to what looks like a real email from a real entity, and the scam artist has what he wanted.

The final thing that makes internet marketing useful is because it is very cheap. There are many sites where you can obtain a free email address and won't ask to identify yourself. Also, it doesn't cost much to simply be your own webmaster. Using the same process as above, one can replicate a legitimate website.

Unlike the false websites or emails, real companies actually use cost-benefit analysis to determine if it is actually worth it to send mass emails like the ones that scammers send. It would need to make more money than is being used to send out the email. In retrospect, scammers don't have to do this because of the fact that they are using a free service to send emails. In fact, there are also programs that can be bought cheap that will help to send out mass emails and make it easier to distribute the scam emails.

So many emails can be sent, in fact, that even if only 1 percent of the recipients respond the scammer has still made out well! This technique has been used to such an extent that legitimate companies rarely use email blitzes anymore, because most people who receive these kinds of emails just assume they are scams!

As a wrap up, imposters and phony emails have overwhelmed the internet with their tricks because of the cost effective results and lack of hard work required. The most important thing that enables this is simply a connection to the internet and some extra time on their hands.
