So, you know by now that you can generate traffic to a website by paying for it with advertising, for instance through pay-per-click or something like banner ads, or any number of pay per visitor advertising. The other option is spending the time to get your website ranked in the search engines. Either of these methods requires time and or money. Now, this doesn't mean you can't maximize your return on either time or money investment by leveraging different types of media, but you're still exchanging time or money for visitors.
There is an alternative method of generating visitors to your site and that is to buy a site with existing visitors and place your offer in front of the customers or simply place ads or drive traffic back to your original site. There are plenty of ways to "redirect" traffic back to your site once you own that new site. What it really depends on is how much this new site costs and making estimates of how many people or visitors to that new site will end up back on your original website. If you know the value of each visitor to the site then you'll be able to determine how much value the purchase of a new site will represent as far as whether or not that site is worth buying. Visitors to your site are either targeted or non-targeted traffic. If you purchase a site that is closely related to yours, visitors that you can redirect to your original site would be targeted traffic. Some of the visitors to your site that aren't there for the main content and just happen on the site some other way would be considered un-targeted traffic. Your focus is getting as much targeted traffic you possible can. Anything else you're just paying for bandwidth. Once you know how much each visitor to your site is worth, you'll know what you can pay for each visitor if you decide to grow your business through pay-per-click or some other source. If you pay for traffic, you'll most likely be focusing on that targeted traffic demographic unless you happen to have a product that speaks to a very large audience (such as weight loss). There are several websites out there that you can buy websites. Perhaps the one that I use the most is sitepoint.com. This website has a great listings for all kinds of websites for sale. Another place you can buy websites is eBay.com. These are two sources for websites available to purchase. You'll have data on how much traffic as well as revenue these sites are making. Make sure you're doing your research before you commit to buy a website. Some of the things you should consider are how much traffic does this site get? How long has the site been up? Does the site have PageRank? There are dozens of things that could influence the value of the site. Just make sure that before you buy a site, you know about it and you have a plan for what to do with it. There are several strategies not only for buying a website to help and support your primary site, but also as a method to leverage existing work other people have done to even run your own business. If you use this strategy effectively, this has the potential of being a very low cost of new traffic to your site. This also means that if you're going to use this strategy you'll need to find sites for sale that are either in your niche or a closely related niche to yours.
