If you want to be a successful online bookseller, it helps if you love two things: money and books. You don't have to be an expert at books to sell books on the Internet, but it helps if you at least have an interest in them. This will help you be successful. In addition, if you like to make money, you'll be motivated to sell good books, and if you do a little research, you'll find out what the best ones are. I've made a few dollars selling books online myself, and it's become something of a hobby for me.

I remember the first book I sold online. I was working in auto sales at the time, and I noticed a salesman cleaning out his desk because he was leaving the business. He handed me a book on how to sell cars that he had bought at a seminar, and said, Maybe this can help you make some money. It didnt help me at all. I took the book, listed it on eBay, and it sold for 75 bucks! The book did help me make money, just not in car sales.

I was pretty lucky with that one. While you are looking for books to sell online, dont expect to find the Holy Grail of books right off the bat. If you buy a book for a dollar and sell it for two fifty, you have made a hundred and fifty percent profit!

There are lots of places you can look for books that you can then sell online for profit. For example, thrift stores are one place. Their stock changes from one week to the next, and sometimes they have truly hidden treasures. The paperbacks sell from anywhere around 50 cents to a dollar, and hardbacks rarely go for over five dollars. Yard Sales are also a great place to find cheap books. A relative of mine was able to find a first edition Mothman Prophesy for a buck, and she sold it on eBay for over eighty dollars. How's that for a profit? And once you get a little practice under your belt, you'll be up to find these types of treasures, too -- maybe even at used bookstores.

What types of books should you sell? What it comes to selling books online, what you sell is up to you. Informational books sell well, and that's mostly what I deal in. If you are thinking about doing this for a living and not just a hobby, it makes sense for you to specialize in a type of book that you enjoy. That way, you have a knowledge and a passion for what you are selling, and that will come across to the buyer.

Avoid buying book club edition books. These are pretty much reader copies of books, and they bring very little money. Books that are over 50 years old and still have a dust jacket are good to sell, because dust jackets rarely last that long. Second edition books do sell, but you will make the most profit by selling first edition books.

Places you can sell books: Ive mentioned eBay quite a bit, because it is where I sell most of the books I buy. Its not the only site on the web, however. Amazon and Craigs list are also good sites to sell books.

As you get better at this, you'll find more sites you can sell on, and eventually you can make some really good money. It's quite easy to sell books online, and it's really fun too, especially if you have a passion for the books you sell.
